Turning scientific research into hands-on enterprise, she committed herself to building practical, scalable solutions.
Abra designed Reconecta’s aerial crossings to function like customized tightrope highways. Constructed from durable, interwoven ropes, the structures are meticulously tailored to accommodate different animal locomotor styles—whether an animal walks upright, swings underneath by its arms, or anchors itself using a prehensile tail. Her work proves that smart engineering can successfully stitch a severed forest canopy back together without halting human transit.
Global Non-Profit Power: Backing Biodiversity from New York
Scaling up grassroots conservation requires serious institutional muscle. Key projects and expansions under the umbrella of these canopy initiatives have been actively supported and funded through major global conservation entities, including international partnerships alongside organizations like the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).
Operating out of New York with an asset scale exceeding $1.25 billion, WCS directs substantial resources toward protecting wild places and critical species corridors across more than 50 countries.
